Storage fees go to the storage fund, which pays future validators for keeping data on chain.

Sui is secured by a set of validators chosen by stake: anyone can stake SUI to a validator, and each validator's voting power follows its stake. Transactions are final once validators holding more than two thirds of the voting power agree. The set, the stake and the reference gas price are fixed for each epoch of about 24 hours. Mysten Labs publishes the node software.

What does this page cover?

What is Sui?
Sui is a public proof-of-stake blockchain whose smart contracts are written in the Move language. Its native token, SUI, pays gas fees and is staked to the validators that run the network. Sui mainnet launched in May 2023; it was created by Mysten Labs, and the Sui Foundation supports its growth.
What is an epoch, and why are figures shown per epoch?
Sui runs in epochs of about 24 hours. The validator set, the stake and the reference gas price stay fixed for an epoch, and rewards are paid when it ends. The chain records transactions, gas fees and rewards for each epoch, so this page shows them per epoch, dated by the UTC day the epoch started, rather than per calendar day.
How is SUI supplied and rewarded?
SUI has a fixed total supply of 10 billion; no new SUI is minted. Each epoch, validators and the people who stake with them share the stake rewards: the epoch's gas fees plus a stake subsidy paid from a fund set aside at genesis. Storage fees go to the storage fund, which pays future validators for keeping data on chain.
How often is the data updated?
Throughput and checkpoint time refresh every two minutes. Validators, stake, total supply and USDC refresh every 30 minutes; per-epoch figures are added within an hour of each epoch ending; releases every six hours. All dates and times are in UTC.
Where does the data come from?
From the Sui network itself, through the Sui Foundation's public GraphQL service (checkpoints, epochs, the validator set, and the coin supply of SUI and of USDC on Sui), and from GitHub (the mainnet releases Mysten Labs publishes). The notes under each section name the sources and define each figure.
What is free, and what is for subscribers?
Live figures, price charts and the last quarter (92 days) of chart history are free on every network page. Reports, the report archive, downloads and full chart history are for subscribers. Subscriptions open once our licensed data sources are in place; plans are on the pricing page.
